Dureti is from Denver, Colorado, where her love for caring for children has shaped her dream of becoming a pediatrician. From an early age, she was drawn to working with young children, a passion that grew through teaching elementary students during the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteering in classrooms, and completing an internship in a neonatal intensive care unit. Motivated by the support she has received from her own community, Dureti has embraced every opportunity to prepare for a career in medicine, seeking out leadership roles, internships, and programs that have strengthened her path. Through her service in her church, she has mentored younger children while developing a deep appreciation for the importance of community and giving back. Dureti will attend Yale University, where she will continue pursuing her goal of becoming a physician before one day opening a pediatric clinic in rural Ethiopia to expand access to healthcare for underserved families. She hopes her career will reflect the same spirit of generosity and opportunity that has shaped her own life, ensuring that more children have the chance to grow up healthy, supported, and full of possibility.
