Using engineering to solve every day problems and connecting generations through service.
Florencio is from Pueblo, Colorado, and is passionate about building stronger communities through service and caregiving. Growing up in a multigenerational household, he spent much of his childhood helping care for his great-grandfather and later supporting his uncle through recovery after a leg amputation. These experiences taught him that even the smallest acts of kindness can restore dignity, independence, and connection. Inspired by the seniors in his community, Florencio started envisioning ways to bridge generational gaps while supporting those often overlooked. Through his lawn care business, he regularly works with older residents, taking time not only to help maintain their homes but also to listen to their stories and build meaningful relationships. Florencio hopes to one day launch “Seniors for Seniors,” a nonprofit that would pair high school students with senior citizens in need of assistance with everyday tasks. He believes the program would create stronger communities while teaching young people the value of responsibility, empathy, and service. After overcoming speech challenges early in life through years of speech therapy, Florencio developed the confidence and determination that continue to drive his academic and personal success. His goal is to use engineering and community-centered leadership to solve everyday problems and ensure nobody feels forgotten.
