I want to provide more access to science education to the youth through paleontology.
Jaysen is from Hemet, California, where years of caring for his younger brother with disabilities instilled in him a deep sense of compassion, responsibility, and service. Since middle school, he has balanced the responsibilities of being a caregiver while remaining committed to making a positive difference in his community. His passion for science has led him to volunteer at the Western Science Center, where he has contributed to paleontological research, prepared fossils for display, and helped create 3D models of prehistoric specimens. At school, Jaysen founded a paleontology club to inspire curiosity in STEM and serves as treasurer of the Breakfast Club, helping organize and fund meals for people experiencing homelessness. He will attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he plans to continue pursuing scientific research while seeking opportunities to serve those around him. Whether caring for his family, advancing scientific discovery, or supporting his community, Jaysen is guided by a simple but powerful goal: to improve the lives of as many people as he can.
