Advancing dementia research to find a cure and improve quality of life for patients and families.
Salahaldeen is from Brooklyn, New York, and hopes his legacy will center on expanding access to healthcare, strengthening trust between patients and providers, and using both medicine and research to serve underserved communities. Born with a congenital heart murmur and later becoming a caregiver for his grandmother after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, he developed an early and personal understanding of how compassionate physicians can transform fear into clarity and how illness impacts entire families. These experiences inspired his commitment to pursuing medicine, particularly dementia research, while also emphasizing empathy and communication in patient care. Through self-directed learning and persistence, Salahaldeen joined a research lab and developed five ML models for dementia risk prediction, becoming the first in his family to enter the research space. He further deepened his commitment to service through volunteer work with the Bay Ridge Ambulance Volunteer Organization (BRAVO), where he served as an emergency medical dispatcher, provided basic care at outreach events, and helped lead youth division initiatives. As a leader, he worked to promote culturally sensitive training and strengthen support for diverse, underserved populations in his community. Salahaldeen hopes to continue bridging medicine, research, and advocacy by improving access to care, advancing dementia research, and creating opportunities for others who lack exposure to these fields. His legacy is rooted in expanding opportunity, building trust, and ensuring that healthcare and knowledge reach communities that have historically been overlooked.
