Making healthcare a more empathetic and community-driven practice.
Spencer is from Cumming, Georgia, where he grew up experiencing the compassion of the physicians who cared for his grandmother. Those conversations sparked his passion for building trust with patients and understanding the social, cultural, and economic experiences that shape their health. His commitment to advancing equitable healthcare led him to earn a highly selective clinical and translational research internship with the Yale School of Medicine, where he developed a research protocol aimed at increasing racial diversity in clinical trials across the Southern United States. He then applied this societal context to a pediatric cancer research program at Emory University. Beyond his research, Spencer served as president of his school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society, leading more than 120 students in organizing performances that bring joy and connection to assisted living residents and his school community. Spencer will attend Yale University, where he will continue preparing for a career dedicated to compassionate, equitable patient care. Whether through research, music, or medicine, he hopes to create spaces where every person feels valued, understood, and genuinely cared for.
