Yohanna is from Charlotte, North Carolina, and is deeply committed to helping others feel seen, supported, and confident enough to step outside their comfort zones. Growing up in a household shaped by African immigrant parents, she often gravitated toward safe, low-visibility activities where she could succeed quietly without the fear of judgment. Over time, however, she began to recognize how much of her potential was being held back by fear of embarrassment and invisibility, which ultimately pushed her to redefine how she shows up in the world. Freshman year marked a turning point when Yohanna first explored theater. Although she initially hesitated due to fear of failure and judgment, a workshop experience revealed a creative and welcoming environment where she could express herself more freely. That moment became the foundation of her growth, eventually leading her to step fully into theater, where she earned a lead role and continued to grow both on stage and behind the scenes. Through acting and stage management, she developed collaboration, leadership, and the courage to be seen. Beyond theater, Yohanna has expanded her impact through leadership in the International Club and participation in Varsity Golf, consistently choosing to enter spaces she once would have avoided. Each experience has strengthened her belief that growth happens when people feel safe enough to try, fail, and try again. Yohanna hopes her legacy will be one of empowerment and inclusion—creating environments where people feel valued, supported, and brave enough to take risks. She plans to accomplish this through authentic leadership, continued involvement in school and community spaces, and by helping others recognize that stepping into visibility can be the beginning of discovering their true potential.
