When you’re a leader, nothing is impossible.
Yuremi is from Chicago, where she has become a passionate advocate for improving the community that shaped her. Rather than focusing on the challenges facing her neighborhood and school, she has dedicated herself to making them safer, stronger, and more welcoming for others. After an ICE raid left many students feeling fearful, Yuremi helped organize a schoolwide assembly where nearly 2,000 students could voice their concerns and begin rebuilding a sense of safety and community. She has continued that commitment through leadership roles on her school’s Local School Council, Student Voice Committee, and campus beautification initiatives, all while excelling academically with a 5.0 GPA and more than 20 International Baccalaureate courses. This fall, Yuremi will attend DePaul University, where she plans to study criminology and continue serving through student government as she works toward her goal of becoming a detective. Driven by a deep belief in justice and service, Yuremi is determined to create safer communities and inspire others to leave every place better than they found it.
